Food and Drink

Like anywhere, Croydon has a sad variety of mediocre restaurants, cafes and pubs.

There are, however, some gems amongst the gravel and these will be detailed on this page [under construction]. Meanwhile, please check the Vittles and Drinks links on the right.

Milan Bar

A Wetherspoons? Indeed! Not the most sophisticated but good range of ales,  adequate food, friendly staff and a little down-at-heel. As a bonus, there’s none of that wretched piped music and the barmaid calls me ‘Babe’.

Oval Tavern

Scores for good ale and a reasonably priced interesting menu which is inventive and original without being gastropubby. Special diets welll catered more. Live entertainment several times a week and a choice jazz and blues venue. Great beer garden which also, from time to time, plays host to some of Croydon’s Morris Dancers.

Tanh Bistro

Small simple Vietnamese place with a reassuringly short menu. BYO keeps the budget down (there’s a Co-op opposite for your beer and wine). Friendly, nice atmosphere and consistently good food. Deals well with gluten-free diets and good venue for vegetarians or vegans.
