….with Body Harmony:-
Although these deal with weapons, the emphasis is on gentle exercise and relaxation. Despite origins in the martial arts, the emphasis is on the spiritual. Three main impliments are used:
- The ‘sensu’ fan
- The ‘tanbo’ – a short staff
- The ‘jo’ – a longer staff, traditionally 50″ long.
No experience is necessary. Classes are friendly and relaxed. They are a gentle workout but won’t leave you out of breath.
No special clothing is needed as there is not the stretching nor bending associated with a fitness class. Everyday wear is fine.
Like all Body Harmony classes, sessions are free!
Where and When
At the Ashburton Hall in Ashburton Park from 2-4pm. We are usually in the main hall, though we often have to wait a few minutes for the preceding Tap class to finish. If unsure then ask at the cafe where “Keith’s class” is. If you can’t get there for 2 o’clock then that’s fine – latecomers are catered for.
Sometimes, however, the main hall is busy in which case we practise outside (weather permitting) so please dress for the elements – just in case.
Address is Ashburton Park, Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon, CR0 7AG. The Hall is the only two-story building in the Park and is bounded by railings.
130, 289 and 312 stop at Ashburton Park right beside the Park.
130 and 367 stop at Oasis Academy. From here head for the traffic lights and cross over, you’ll then be at the park.
Woodside Road is just north of the Park. Leave the station by either exit and turn right. The Park will appear shortly on the right. The Hall is on the far side.
Bus 312 runs from East Croydon; 289 runs from West Croydon; 367 runs from both. From either station trams 1 or 2 (to Beckenham Junction or Elmers End) stop at Woodside Green.
